Necessity in the Preservation, Conservation and Restoration of an Ecosystem

Preventive measures can be taken towards the preservation, conservation and restoration of the ecosystem.

  • Ecosystem preservation
    • Refers to the effort of protecting the ecosystem so that the natural condition can be maintained.
    • For example, gazetting forests as reserved areas free from all sorts of development activities. Natural flora and fauna can be maintained.

  • Ecosystem conservation
    • Refers to the effort of restoring natural resources to avoid extinction.
    • To save and maintain the components of an endangered ecosystem.
    • 2 types of conservation strategy which are in situ conservation and ex situ conservation.
      • In situ conservation maintains wildlife inside the habitat such as natural parks and marine parks.
      • Ex situ conservation maintains the animals outside of their habitats. For example, zoo and botanical parks.

  • Ecosystem restoration
    • Refers to the effort of renewing and restoring a already damaged ecosystem as a result of human developmental activities.
    • For instance, reforestation and planting of cover crops.
